About Shirtseed
“Celebration of Self-propelled Movement” is this year’s theme, a series of colourful vintage bikes and trikes. Shirtseed is the inspiration of Vancouver mother and entrepreneur Amy Rogerson. Made from bamboo and organic cotton the shirts are created for moms and tots. They are natural unbleached and un-dyed. The fabric is Oeko-tex certified and the yarn is created in a “closed-loop system” to eliminate waste and the water is re-used. The result is a beautifully soft, high quality garment with almost no shrinkage. “I taught myself how to screen-print so that I could choose my fabric dye and control the process”. The dye of choice is water-based and solvent-free and not available through most high volume screen-printers.
The clothing is designed local and the manufacturing of the t-shirts takes place in a safe and fair offshore facility. Social audit inspections are conducted by the third party agency AsianInspection.com and Shirtseed’s onshore factory liaison visits the facility several times per year to ensure ethical production. Furthermore, the current conditions met are higher than those maintained by the Fair Labor Association.
Screen-printing takes place in Shirtseed’s local Vancouver Sweatshop.
See here’s Amy sweating!
